In red chalk Leonardo draws a hollow rectangular box (a parallelepiped shown in open outline) at the left, beside a rectangular face labelled with the measures 6 and 2. Around it he sets out number progressions, including the tripling series 3, 9, 27 and a further multiplying series 2, 4, 12, 48, together with the edge measures 2, 3, 4 whose product is the volume 24. Linked arcs carry the intermediate figures.
