Faint studies of a suspended rod and a device
Red-chalk sketches with scattered numerals and a jotted name
The first leaf carries only faint red-chalk sketches: a horizontal rod suspended from above (drawn twice), some indeterminate figures, and a lightly outlined mechanism. The written traces amount to scattered numerals (6, 8-9, 33) and the jotted name Bonifazio, and much of the work is oriented upside-down relative to the rest of the book. A later hand has added a Latin note at the head of the page remarking that Leonardo's script is mirror-writing. Further faint, untranscribed markings remain across the sheet.

Suspended horizontal rod
Two faint red-chalk studies show a horizontal rod hung from above, the kind of set-up Leonardo used to examine balance and weight. Only stray numerals - 6 and 8-9 - accompany them, so the intended measurement is left unclear.
Indeterminate mechanism
Lower on the sheet a device is lightly outlined but left unresolved, its function not made explicit. It is marked only with the number 33.
Jotted name: Bonifazio
Beside the faint mechanism the name 'Bonifazio' is written, one of the notebook's many jotted personal references. No further explanation is given.
