This pocket-notebook leaf combines a small pen sketch of a column profile (upper right) with two jotted notes. One note gives a practical recipe for testing marcasite for copper — dropping it in aqua fortis and watching for a green reaction, then drawing it out with saltpetre and soft soap. A second note, in red chalk, records that Master Giuliano da Marliano owns a fine herbal, standing opposite the Strami timber-merchants.
