Fortified Enclosure with Round Towers: View and Plan
Red-chalk and ink studies of a bastioned stronghold
The recto is dominated by two ink-over-red-chalk studies of a fortified structure: an oblique bird's-eye view of a walled compound with rounded corner towers, ramped flanks and a central tented roof, and beneath it a schematic plan of a square enclosure whose corners carry rounded bastions linked by curtain walls. Several lines of mirror-script, including a heading at the very top, run across the sheet but are not transcribed in this bundle, so no reading of them is offered here. The drawings are consistent with the codex's studies of fortification and military architecture.

Bird's-eye view of a bastioned stronghold
An oblique aerial view shows a compact fortified compound with rounded corner towers and a raised central block roofed by a tent-like structure. Ramped or terraced flanks descend from the walls, and the whole sits on a broad platform. The red-chalk underdrawing has been reinforced in brown ink.
Plan of a square enclosure with round corner elements
Below the view is a schematic plan: a small square inner chamber set within a larger square whose corners are marked by rounded bastion-like masses joined by walls. The drawing reads as the footprint of the fortified structure shown above.
