The recto continues the sail study with a pen diagram at the top, labelled a, showing the yard and sail seen nearly end-on, and several fainter pencil sketches of sails below. Brief captions again name the rigging lines: the orza davanti (fore bowline, at the bow), the orza di poppa (aft bowline) and the oste. Most of the lower sketches are only lightly drawn.

The uppermost pen figure, marked a, shows the sail and its yard viewed almost end-on, with crossing rigging lines. Fainter pencil sketches of the same sail are grouped below it.
