Headings 686 to 697 treat how the eye sees more or less shadow according to its movement around a shadowed body (686), the viewpoint from which one never sees shadow on shadowed spheres (687), and whether a luminous body can illuminate only part of a shadowed body smaller than itself (697).
Counterfeiting the darkness of shadows in painting
The closing headings treat the various degrees of darkness of the shadows of bodies as counterfeited (represented) in painting (698), which colours make the greatest variety from lights to shadows (699), and that all colours in distant shadows become unknown (700).
