The centre of the sheet carries two closely observed mechanical studies: curved, fan-like bodies threaded by straight rods, with several parts marked by letters and a figure '8'. Higher up a small standing man holds a banner on a pole beside a cruciform frame, and a row of tiny sketches (a low boat-like form and a bowl marked 'A') runs along the top edge. The page is filled top and bottom with Leonardo's mirror-writing, which is not transcribed in this edition; further untranscribed text is present.

Two curved pivoting devices with rod linkages
At the middle of the leaf are two matching mechanical sketches, each a curved fan-shaped body pierced by straight rods or axles. Small parts are picked out with letter labels and one region is marked with a figure '8', suggesting a pivoting or spring-loaded mechanism.
Standard-bearer and cruciform frame
Above the mechanisms a small figure of a man stands holding a banner on a tall pole, set beside a cross-shaped frame or spar. The military character of the notebook frames these as figures attached to the machine studies rather than an independent scene.
