Folio 1r: opening inscription and landscape sketch
First leaf, bearing a later note in ordinary script and a faint horizon line
The first leaf of the notebook, numbered 1 at the upper right, carries several lines of writing in an ordinary left-to-right hand across the top, followed by a small pen sketch of a long, gently undulating hatched line that reads as a distant landscape horizon. A round Institut de France library stamp is impressed near the centre of the otherwise blank page. Because the bundle supplies no transcription, the inscription is left unread here; further untranscribed text is present on the sheet.

Small hatched horizon line below the written lines
Beneath the lines of writing a single long, gently undulating line is drawn across the width of the page, with short hatched strokes rising from it in places. The effect suggests a distant hilly or wooded horizon rather than a plain ruled underline.
