Swimmer with a life-preserver

A way of saving oneself in a storm and shipwreck at sea. One must have a garment of leather that has the lips of the chest doubled by the space of a finger, and likewise be double from the waist to the knee; and let it be of leather secure against leaking air. And when you need to leap into the sea, blow up through the chest lips the skirts of your garment, and jump into the sea, and let yourself be guided by the waves when you see no nearby shore nor have knowledge of the sea. And always keep in your mouth the air-tube that goes into the garment, and when once or twice you need to take some common air and the foam prevents you, draw through the mouthpiece of the garment's tube.

Machines & Devices
