Extruding wax into a pyramid
Take a square hole b through which square wax is drawn out, and let that square grow three times to give the height of the required pyramid. From a given quantity of dilatable, extensible matter such as wax, form a pyramid on a base equal to a given square and find its height.
A narrowing body gains length as it loses width
A uniform body that narrows evenly gains as much length as it loses width, in proportion to its sides. Narrowing tablet a c b d to a quarter of its thickness makes it lose three quarters and gain three times its first length; since a pyramid is one third of its cylinder, three cylinders of material make the pyramid.
