Red-chalk channel sections with problems on flow and rebound
At the head of the leaf four parallel lines are ruled in pen, above red-chalk sections of channels labelled with letters g f e, d c b a, i h and m l h, their beds shown hatched to suggest the current. One note poses a problem: given two channels of equal slope, width and flow, one pinched at the middle to a third of its width and the other left open, which will discharge more water? A second note observes that water falling into standing water strikes the bed, leaps up above the general surface, and then, falling back, loses height with each successive bound.

Which of two channels pours more water
If the beds of two channels are of equal slope, width and quantity of water, and one is narrowed at the middle of its width to two thirds of that width while the other is left of equal width throughout, Leonardo asks which will discharge the greater volume. Water falling into water and its diminishing leaps
Water that falls into other water strikes the bed and rises toward the air higher than the general surface, and, falling back down, its leaps grow smaller. The rebound is lettered n and m a in the accompanying sketch.
