Land measure: 96 trabocchi make a pertica

Near the top a rectangle is ruled in red chalk (sanguigna) with its sides marked 12 and 8, and beside it Leonardo works the multiplication in pen. He notes that 8 times 12 makes 96, and that 96 trabocchi — or verzigate, which he says are one and the same — come to make a single pertica. The rest of the leaf is largely blank, with faint show-through from the facing pages.
