Red-chalk studies of an iron hinge-pin and a knotted ornament
The catalogue caption identifies the drawing as the 'figure of a hinge-hook (arpione).' In red chalk the sheet shows two curved hook-like forms, each swelling to a rounded knobbed head — hardware such as an iron pintle on which a door or shutter would hang — with a small knotted, star-like ornament above them. Several lines of untranscribed mirror-script text are also present in the lower part of the sheet.

Iron hinge-hook (arpione)
The caption names the sheet 'figure of a hinge-hook.' Two curved iron forms are drawn in red chalk, each rising to a rounded knob at its upper end, the shape of a pintle or hook from which a door or shutter would swing. The right-hand example is given a fuller, plate-like head.
Knotted star ornament
Above the hooks a densely worked red-chalk motif resolves into an interlaced, star-like knot. It stands apart from the hardware studies as a small decorative flourish.
