Two Waters Meeting: Right and Left Eddies
Currents merging into one conduit along the river bed generate paired vortices
In red chalk Leonardo describes two waters that meet and then pour together through a single conduit along the bed of a river. Where they merge, right-handed and left-handed eddies (retrosi) are generated, and at times these right and left eddies join together. A red-chalk sketch at the top shows the spreading, curling flow of the merging currents.
