The undulating pen outline maps a stretch of coast or territory around Populonia, the sketch running across onto folio 81v. Only the single place-name is written on it.
Why a crossbow string breaks near its ends
Leonardo asks why the cord of a crossbow breaks closer to its ends than at any other point, a question about where tension concentrates along a loaded string. A small crossbow with its taut cord is drawn at upper right.
Cart from Cesena
A terse memorandum records a 'cart from Cesena', apparently a note on a vehicle noted during the Romagna travels. A small sketch appears near the lower stamp.
