Dovecote at Urbino: elevation and ground plan
Cutaway of the nesting cells and a ground plan with a drain, inscribed Urbino, 30 July 1402
Leonardo records the dovecote (colombaia) at Urbino, inscribing it with the place and the date, the thirtieth of July 1402. A rough cutaway at the top shows the tiers of nesting cells stacked within the building, while a ground plan below sets out its rooms and passages, with one outlet labelled scolatorio (a drain). The sheet accords with the notebook's notes made during the Cesare Borgia campaigns.
