Profile Portrait of a Man in a Soft Cap
A head in profile to the left, drawn in red and black chalk
The sheet shows the bust of a man seen in strict profile to the left, his face and long hair worked in red chalk and his broad soft cap, tunic and shoulders in black chalk. The features are strongly individualized, with a heavy jaw, prominent nose and downturned mouth, suggesting a portrait taken from life rather than an ideal type. A round collector's stamp appears at the lower left. Faint untranscribed inscriptions are also visible near the left margin; that writing was not supplied in the bundle and is therefore not reproduced here.

Bust of a man in profile
The man is shown from the chest up, turned in profile to the left. His hair falls to the neck beneath a large soft beret rendered in dark chalk, and he wears a plain tunic over the shoulders. The red-chalk modelling of cheek, brow and throat gives the head a warm, lifelike relief.
