Head of an Aged Man in Right Profile
Red-chalk study of a man's head, facing right, within a circular sheet
A red-chalk study of an aging man's head seen in right profile, drawn within a circular (tondo) sheet. The face is closely modelled — a heavy brow, prominent nose, hollow cheek and a firm, slightly downturned mouth — while the ear and the hair falling behind it are laid in with looser, searching strokes. At the lower left faint chalk lines trail off unresolved, suggesting the start of a shoulder or a further study. The Uffizi collection stamp is impressed at the lower right.

Aged man's head in right profile
The head fills the centre of the tondo, turned in sharp profile to the right. The features are built up with fine hatched red chalk that models the brow, nose, sunken cheek and mouth; the jaw and neck are drawn more lightly. The likeness reads as an older, clean-shaven man with a grave expression.
Ear and hair sketched behind the face
Behind the profile the ear is enlarged and repeated in overlapping strokes, and the hair is only summarily indicated. This looser handling contrasts with the finished modelling of the face and marks the passage as a working study rather than a resolved portrait.
