Grotesque Heads: Caricatures and a Horned Monster (nos. 41-44)
Four character studies, including a screaming face and a demonic figure
This plate gathers four grotesque studies numbered 41 to 44 in the corners. Two are aged men in profile with protruding lips and coarse features, one wearing a wrapped cloth cap; a third is a frontal head with wild windblown hair and an open, grimacing mouth; the fourth is a fantastical horned, monstrous creature with a fleshy wattle at the throat, shown frontally. No autograph text is present, and the numbers are later cataloguing marks.

Man in a wrapped cap (no. 41)
A coarse-featured man in a bulky wrapped cloth cap faces left in profile. His lips protrude and the eye is deeply shaded beneath a heavy brow.
Long-haired old man with open mouth (no. 42)
An aged man with long straight hair faces left in profile, his mouth open and lips thrust forward. The jaw is heavy and the throat lined with wrinkles.
Screaming face with wild hair (no. 43)
A frontal head grimaces with an open mouth showing teeth, the brow furrowed in anguish. Masses of unruly hair spread outward as if blown by wind.
Horned monster (no. 44)
A fantastical creature shown from the front has curling ram-like horns, a snub-nosed grimacing mouth, and a large fleshy wattle hanging at the throat. The muscular chest and shoulders are heavily shaded.
