Red-chalk study of a horned bull
A powerful horned animal drawn in sanguine, its head lowered
A single study in red chalk (sanguine) of a large horned animal, apparently a bull or ox, seen from the front and slightly above. The heavy shoulders and back are firmly modelled while the lowered head and horns, the forelegs and hooves are drawn more lightly toward the lower part of the sheet. The paper is worn and stained and no transcribed text is present.

Study of a bull in red chalk
The sheet carries a single animal study in sanguine: a massive horned beast with its head bent low, the muscular shoulders and spine emphasised by the chalk. The forelegs, hooves and curving horns are sketched more faintly below, suggesting the animal's bulk and stance.
