Head of a Young Woman with Downcast Eyes
Red chalk study of an idealized female head with flowing curly hair
A finished red-chalk (sanguine) study of a young woman's head, tilted slightly forward and seen from a little above, her eyes lowered and lips softly closed. A narrow band crosses her forehead, and long, richly curling hair frames the face and falls past the shoulders. A small inscription appears at the lower right, which the bundle does not transcribe.

Idealized female head with downcast gaze
The face is modeled in soft red chalk, with delicate gradations of light and shade across the cheeks, nose, and closed eyelids. The hair is drawn as a mass of springing curls parted at the crown and gathered by a band across the brow. The gentle downward tilt gives the head a contemplative, devotional character.
