A pair of bust studies of heavily bearded heads seen in profile
Two small red-chalk studies, mounted one above the other, each showing the head and shoulders of a bearded man in profile. The upper figure faces right, with a prominent nose, full beard, and a bare shoulder indicated below. The lower figure, facing left, shows a similarly bearded head, more thinly drawn and heavily worn. Both are character studies of aging, bearded types.

Bearded man in profile (upper study)
The upper head is drawn in profile to the right, with a strong nose, deep-set eye, and a thick beard shaded in dense red chalk. The neck and one bare shoulder are lightly indicated below. Losses and abrasion mar the lower-left corner of the sheet.
Bearded man in profile (lower study)
The lower head, in profile to the left, has a broad beard rendered with fine hatched strokes and a receding hairline. The drawing is faint and rubbed, the features of the face only lightly established.
