Studies of Cats and Small Beasts
Faint pen studies of animals crouching, springing, and at rest
Faint pen studies scatter across this sheet, showing cats and similar small animals in a range of poses: crouching, springing, huddling together, and turning to groom. The contours are light and in places rubbed, so several of the figures are only partly legible. A crouching beast at the lower left, with a fuller mane and heavy tail, recalls a small lion. No text accompanies the drawings.

Cats crouching and springing
Lightly drawn cats crouch, spring, and cluster across the middle of the sheet, their bodies indicated with soft, sketchy outlines. The faint handling leaves several poses only partly defined.
Maned beast at lower left
At the lower left a crouching animal with a fuller mane and heavy sweeping tail resembles a small lion. Its contours are among the more finished on the sheet, standing out from the fainter neighboring studies.
