A red chalk study of a bent arm on a torn, irregularly shaped sheet. The forearm rises from the lower left and folds at the elbow, the upper hand drawn at the top with fingers loosely curled. A separate study of a hand, its fingers relaxed, is placed at the lower right, and a further faint hand appears at the lower left corner. The muscle and surface of the arm are modelled with firm, blended chalk, the sheet torn away along its right and upper edges.

Bent forearm and hand
The arm sweeps up from the lower part of the sheet and bends at the elbow, the hand at the top drawn with the fingers softly curled. The rounded muscles and the play of light over the skin are built up in firmly blended red chalk.
Separate hand study
At the lower right a second hand is studied on its own, the fingers relaxed and slightly parted. It is drawn more summarily than the arm above, as an independent study of the hand's pose.
