Red Chalk Study of a Human Limb, with a Profile Head
Heavily modelled muscular form, with a small bearded profile and further sketches at lower right
A large red-chalk study on red prepared paper renders the outward muscular form of a human limb, densely modelled with hatching and blended shading. At the lower right of the sheet a small head in profile and further faint sketches are drawn. No writing accompanies the drawing, and the sheet is cut irregularly along its upper and left edges.

Modelled study of the outward form of a limb
The principal drawing gives the surface anatomy of a human limb in red chalk, the volumes built up with close hatching and blended shading to suggest the play of light over muscle. The contour is reinforced along the lower edge of the form.
Small profile head at lower right
In the lower right corner a small head is drawn in profile, facing right, more lightly sketched than the main study. Additional faint marks appear beneath it.
