Profile of a Bald Old Man
Red-chalk profile head of an aged man, with old inscriptions on the sheet
In red chalk an elderly bald man is drawn in right profile, his deeply lined face, sunken cheek, and long nose modelled with careful shading that continues down the sinewy neck. Only the head and neck are carried to finish, the rest of the sheet left bare. Inscriptions in an old hand run across the top edge and appear again at the lower left, but the bundle provides no transcription of them.

Profile head of an old man
The bald, aged head is shown in right profile with heavy brows, a hooked nose, and skin creased into deep wrinkles about the eye and mouth. The face is the fully worked focus of the drawing.
Sinewy neck
Below the jaw the muscles and tendons of the neck are drawn with strong shading, carrying the study down toward the shoulder. This is the only part of the body beyond the head to be developed.
