Building studies: arches, vaults, a dome, and cracked walls

Both folios are packed with small pen sketches of building elements: round and pointed arches, barrel-vaulted niches, a small dome or cupola, and diagrams of walls opening in fissures. Among them appear a cube drawn with a diagonal and cylindrical pier-like forms of the kind used to reason about how damp masonry settles and shrinks. The sheet also carries extensive mirror-writing across both pages that is not transcribed in this bundle.

The upper and left portions of the sheet gather sketches of round and pointed arches, a barrel-vaulted niche, and a small hemispherical dome. Diagrams of walls splitting into fissures accompany them.
A cube and cylindrical solids among the wall studies
At the lower right a cube is drawn with a diagonal, set beside cylindrical, pier-like solids. They sit among the diagrams of settling and cracking masonry rather than as isolated geometric figures.
