It asks whether the beam a b c, overcome by the weight n, could bend along any line other than the one figured, that is to the right, left, forward or backward. The answer is that it could not, unless the beam were weaker in that direction.
Trestle frames and a toothed apparatus
The top of the sheet shows several drawn trestle and A-frame structures together with a mechanical device carrying toothed racks or bars. These drawings are not covered by the transcription and are noted only from what is drawn.
Rocky landscape and a domed form among crags
The lower half of the sheet bears loose sketches of a broken, rocky landscape with hills, and near the foot a ribbed dome-like form set among crags. These scenes are recorded from the drawing alone.
