Height and length of a bounce as a proportion of the force of impact
Leonardo analyses the 'rebound motion' (moto refresso) of a body that has been struck, arguing that the power of the impetus lasts through the whole rebound and dies out where natural (downward) motion begins. He states that the moving body rises and travels only as far as the power of percussion accompanies it. He concludes with a proportion: the power of impetus stands to the power of percussion as the height of the rebound stands to its length. A trajectory arc and faint line figures accompany the notes.

Impetus lasts through the whole rebound
The power of the impetus endures throughout the entire rebound motion and ends where the natural (downward) motion begins. It is the impetus that carries the struck body up and away from the point of impact.
Rise measured by the power of percussion
The moving body rises in its rebound only as far as the power of percussion accompanies it, and that power joins the motion fully only at the summit of the bounce. Elevation and impact-force are treated as coupled quantities.
Impetus to percussion as height to length
Leonardo concludes that the power of the impetus bears to the power of percussion the same proportion as the height of the rebound motion bears to its length. The whole length of the rebound is said to arise from the simple power of the impetus, its whole height from the power of the blow.
