The page carries a single block of Leonardo's text on the doctrine of 'species': every body infuses and mingles its likeness throughout the air around it, so that the whole and every part of a body's image is present in every part of the opposing air, and the air likewise in the surfaces of the bodies. He concludes that each body is wholly and in part within the bodies set opposite it, as demonstrated by mirrors placed face to face. In this transmitted-light view a long diagonal rule and a small inked circle are faintly visible among the lines.
