A mechanical diagram in which a graduated beam, hinged at a point on a horizontal baseline, swings upward while faint concentric arcs trace the paths of its marked divisions. At the right end of the baseline a small pulley carries a hanging weight, labelled 8/10 g, and the top of the arm is labelled 5/10 n, so the sheet studies how a swinging weighted arm relates to a counterweight running over a pulley. At the right end of the base a pulley carries a small weight labelled 8/10 g. The construction compares the position of the swinging arm with the pull of the suspended counterweight.
Fan of concentric arcs from the pivot
A series of faint concentric semicircular arcs is struck from the pivot point, dividing the swing of the arm into equal steps. These arcs let each graduated mark on the beam be read off as it rotates, turning the mechanical study into a geometric construction of the arm's motion.
