The bulk of the sheet is a treatise on motion: in every motion one must weigh the mover, the moved body and the instrument together, and reckon the friction of the three; every moving body weighs and moves along the line of its motion, and equal powers in equal time resist each other equally. A figure of three circles asks whether the weight of the wheel S b bears upon the supporting wheel along the line b a or along b n. Interspersed are two travel jottings, 'At Rome' and 'At old Tivoli, the house of Hadrian', and a dated financial memorandum, 'Praise be to God, 1500, on the 20th day of March. Paid for this first bill of exchange...'.

Weighing mover, moved body and instrument together
In all the motions the moved body makes when driven by the mover through an instrument, one must consider the weight of the mover, of the moved body and of the instrument where they are applied, together with the friction of those three powers. Every moving body moves more easily along the line in which it pushes, and (his 'sixth') every moving body weighs along the line of its motion.

Does wheel S b bear along b a or along b n?
Beside a figure of three circles Leonardo asks whether the weight of the wheel S b bears upon the wheel that supports it along the line b a or along the line b n, saying this is proved by the sixth above, by drawing a line from one center to the other.
Instrument path length and contrary motions of mover and moved
When the instrument between mover and moved body makes a shorter path on the mover's side, or the mover makes less motion than the moved body, the mover proves the more powerful. When their motions are equal they join in one path; when the mover's motion is shorter they are of contrary motions and the mover lies nearer the center of the moved body.

Weight of a body lies in the contacts of its support
The weight of every body is entirely in the contacts of its support; the heavy body weighs along the line of its motion, so that n a weighs only at a. The gravity received by the support runs by the shortest way to the opposite side, from which the weight is received.
