A wheeled war-engine and the Pavian mill
A large wheeled engine with numbered circles, plus a 12-bladed mill wheel and its fall of water.
Two mounted fragments make up this recto. On the upper (73a) fragment a large wheeled war-engine with two great spoked wheels and a long projecting arm is drawn in ink, cataloged among the codex's catapult studies, surrounded by nested circles labeled with measures (25, 50, 100; 100, 50, 25, 12½), tabulated numbers, and the word 'Magnifico' added in another hand. The lower (73b) fragment carries notes on a 'Pavian mill': a mill wheel with twelve paddles and a fall of water directed through shaped channels, with dimensions given in braccia. Together the leaf ranges from artillery to milling machinery and its water supply.

Large wheeled war-engine
A heavy machine rides on two great spoked wheels with a long arm reaching out to the right, drawn in firm ink on the upper fragment. It belongs to the sheet's catapult and war-engine studies.
The Pavian mill and its wheel
The lower fragment is headed 'Pavian mill' and specifies a mill wheel fitted with twelve paddles, each two braccia long and a third of a braccio wide.
Fall of water into shaped channels
The water is made to fall three braccia into troughs that are a braccio wide at their broadest and half a braccio or more at the narrow point, their sides two-thirds of a braccio high—supplying the mill wheel above.
Nested circles marked with measures
Groups of concentric circles are labeled with descending values—100, 50, 25, 12½—alongside further tabulated figures, apparently a study of proportional measures.
