Studies of braced beams marked 21, 24, 22, with a seated man exerting force
The sheet is covered with studies of inclined beams and struts braced against walls and ledges, several of them jointed or hinged, annotated with small numbers (21, 24, 22). Beside the beam labelled m–22–n Leonardo asks where the middle of that beam's weight lies. At the lower right a seated nude figure braces his feet against a ledge and pulls on a device with both hands, apparently to study the force a man can exert. Extensive further notes surround the diagrams that are not included in the transcription.
