Design for a movable bridge
A long bridge seen in perspective, with a pivoting span and its operating mechanism
The sheet is dominated by a pen drawing, in strong perspective, of a long bridge or causeway lined with low palisades, receding across the sheet toward the upper right. At its near end a shorter span is set with an upright post and rods, and a small windlass-like device with an outrigger appears at the right, giving the structure the character of a movable or swinging bridge. An inscription below labels the whole 'movable bridge'.

Movable bridge in perspective
A long timber bridge with railed sides is drawn receding into the distance; the near section carries an upright pivot post and connecting rods that allow part of the span to move, an arrangement Leonardo names a movable bridge.
Operating mechanism at the pivot
At the right end of the near span a small hoisting or winding device with a projecting arm is drawn, evidently the mechanism that would raise or swing the movable section of the bridge.
