The leaf, which the modern editor records as bearing no writing, is covered with pen sketches of machine parts. A toothed wheel engaging a curved rack sits within a housing at the upper right, while a long shaft or barrel runs diagonally across the whole sheet. Smaller studies of collared fittings, a banded cylinder and a forked support are grouped along the lower and left edges. The Codex Atlanticus tags associate the sheet with the physics of motion and with sound-producing devices such as a rattle or water-bladder.

Toothed wheel and curved rack in a housing
At the upper right a circular wheel meshes with a zig-zag rack inside a rectangular housing, forming a geared or ratcheted mechanism. A smaller disk is drawn just below it. The assembly is rendered in pen without any accompanying note.
Long diagonal shaft with end fittings
