Window with concealed hinges and iron fittings
Elevation of a casement window over section details of its pivots and ironwork
The upper half of the sheet shows a tall two-leaf casement window drawn in elevation, twice labelled Finestra and set into a framed opening with a cornice. Below it Leonardo lays out the window's hardware in section: long hinge-bars, pivots and a strap-hinge, with a wall junction detailed at the lower right. The notes prescribe that all the ironwork go inside, that every hinge-pin be sunk into the wood as far as its pivot centre so the leaves close without a gap, and that the strap-hinge be fastened with a screw.

Casement window in elevation labelled Finestra
The top of the sheet shows a tall two-leaf window set in a framed opening with a cornice above. Each leaf is labelled Finestra (window). It is drawn in careful elevation over the hardware studies below.
All the ironwork to be set on the inside
A note at the left instructs that all the iron fittings are to go on the inside of the window. The hinge-bars and pivots are accordingly drawn as concealed hardware. This keeps the visible face clean.
Hinge-pin sunk in the wood to close without a gap
The paragraph at the lower centre states that every hinge-pin must be hidden inside the surface of the wood as far as the centre of its pivot. By this rule, doors or windows will leave no gap when they open. It is Leonardo's construction principle for close-fitting joinery.
Strap-hinge fastened with a screw; wall junction
A left-hand note records that the strap-hinge is fastened with a screw, drawn beside a hinge detail. At the lower right a pivot detail meets a block labelled Muro (wall). Together they show how the window seats into the masonry.
