Spindle mechanisms and the centre of gravity
A sheet of small machine sketches with a note on a rising-and-falling spindle
The recto is crowded with small, lightly drawn sketches of mechanisms — pulleys, weighted arms, and spindles or bobbins. A caption in the upper right, joined by pen strokes to figures of solids, is headed 'On the centre of gravity,' while a device in the lower right is annotated 'the spindle rises and lowers,' and a separate figure is labelled simply 'spindle.' Much of the sheet is faint and further untranscribed sketching is present.

A spindle that rises and lowers
A machine detail in the lower right is annotated 'the spindle rises and lowers,' describing a spindle able to move up and down within its frame.
