Machine studies: a geared shaft and wheeled frames
A long cogged shaft with a row of discs, above wheeled carriage-frames and gear trains
The recto is filled with carefully penned mechanical studies: a long horizontal shaft carrying a large toothed crown-wheel and a row of disc-shaped elements dominates the upper half, while below are several wheeled frames with inclined members and geared drives. Only two brief annotations were transcribed — 'good' beside one machine detail and the numbers '10 100' by a system of wheels, suggesting a gear ratio. Further untranscribed notes are visible in the upper right.

A geared shaft and wheeled frames
A long horizontal shaft bearing a large toothed crown-wheel and a row of disc elements is drawn across the top of the sheet, with several wheeled carriage-frames and gear trains below. A detail in the lower right margin carries the single approving note 'good.'
A system of wheels marked 10 and 100
In the lower left corner a system of wheels is annotated with the numbers '10' and '100,' apparently a gear ratio between the wheels of the train.
