A long carriage-device and gear crowns, beside memoranda of trading towns and names, and calculations
The verso combines a large mechanical drawing — a long wheeled carriage running on rails with toothed crown-wheels and pinions at either end — with several written lists. In red chalk at the top is a memorandum of trading towns (Perpignan, Rouen, Lyon, Antwerp, Paris, Ghent, Bruges, Holland), and in pen a column of Florentine names such as Giuliano Gondi and the Capponi. The gear train is labelled with tooth-counts, and arithmetical calculations fill the lower right; much of the surrounding mirror-script is untranscribed.

A wheeled carriage with geared crown-wheels
A long carriage on rails runs the width of the sheet, driven at each end by toothed crown-wheels and pinions. The gearing is annotated with tooth-counts — 48 (36), 8 (12), 80 (72), 160 — with the note 'from 160 tight [turns].'
A memorandum of trading towns
In red chalk along the upper margin is a list of French and northern trading towns: Perpignan, Rouen, Lyon, Antwerp, Paris, Ghent, Bruges, Holland.
A list of Florentine names
In pen at the left is a column of Florentine names — Giuliano Gondi, Tomaso Ridolfi, Tommaso Capponi, the heirs of Lionardo Manelli, Giovan Portinari and others — apparently a memorandum of persons.
Arithmetical calculations
The lower right carries columns of figures — multiplications and divisions involving 36, 48, 72, 160, 216 and 480 — worked out beside the geared machine.
