Geared frame machine with lifting tackle
A large toothed mechanism labelled 'telaio', with block-and-tackle and screw fittings
The upper drawing shows a substantial timber machine built around a large toothed wheel and ratchet set within a frame, which Leonardo labels 'telaio' (frame). A note written inside the mechanism remarks that the whole apparatus needs to be made longer. A lower sketch works out the lifting gear separately: paired pulley-blocks with hooks and a screw turnbuckle for tensioning.

The frame ('telaio') and its gearing
A framework carries a large toothed wheel engaging a ratchet, with uprights, guides and levers around it. The word 'telaio' (frame) is written to the right of the mechanism. A jotting set inside the machine notes that the whole thing should be made longer.
Block-and-tackle and screw turnbuckle
The lower sketch studies the hoisting gear on its own: paired pulley-blocks strung with cord and fitted with hooks, together with a screw turnbuckle for drawing a line taut. These are the lifting elements that would give the machine its mechanical advantage.
