Spring device and wheeled mechanisms, with sums and a memory
Mechanical sketches, columns of arithmetic, a fountainhead caption and a recollection of Duke Galeazzo's lion
The sheet mixes several concerns: a spring-loaded 'dart' device drawn at the upper left, a larger frame mechanism in the middle, and lower down a wheeled apparatus with discs and shafts. Alongside the drawings Leonardo has set out worked columns of figures, captioned one figure as 'heads of springs' (fontanili), and jotted a recollection of seeing Duke Galeazzo's lion made in the Piazza di Castello. Further untranscribed writing is faintly visible at the right of the sheet.

Spring device and wheeled apparatus
A spring-loaded mechanism, described in one caption as a 'dart', is drawn at the upper left, with a larger framed device below it. Toward the foot of the sheet a wheeled apparatus with large discs and shafts is worked out in several views. The drawings are exploratory and not fully resolved.
Columns of worked figures
A block of arithmetic sits at the upper right. It carries a multiplication of 109 by 12, giving the partials 218 and 109 and the sum 1,308, together with further loose figures: 108, 1308, 65, 8, 200, 20, 2, 3, 6, 2, 6.
A recollection: Duke Galeazzo's lion
Beside a small figure Leonardo has noted, 'I saw the lion of Duke Galeazzo being made in the Piazza di Castello.' It reads as a personal memory rather than a caption for the drawing.
A figure labelled 'heads of springs'
One small figure carries the caption 'teste di fontanili', the heads or sources of spring-fed water. The label ties this study to the collection and outlet of natural springs.
