Two machine studies on mounted fragments
A geared bench machine and a tall framed mechanism, drawn without text
Two cut and mounted fragments each carry a pen drawing of a machine, and the note marks both (a and b) as bearing no writing. The larger fragment shows a cylindrical drum mechanism with a crank and a large gear wheel set on an inclined bed atop a four-legged trestle. The smaller strip shows a tall mechanism enclosed in an upright frame, with a vertical shaft and internal bars.

Framed vertical mechanism
The narrow left-hand fragment holds a tall device set within an upright rectangular frame. A vertical shaft rises from the top, and inside the frame are horizontal bars and a helical element above a circular base. The note marks this piece as carrying no writing.
Geared machine on a trestle bench
The larger fragment shows a horizontal cylindrical drum with a crank at its top and a large toothed wheel at its side, mounted on an inclined bed. The whole rests on a sturdy four-legged bench, its front cross-piece fitted with a cruciform bracket, and the drawing is finished with dense diagonal shading.
