The sheet studies a machine driven by toothed wheels. Leonardo notes the tooth counts along the gear train — 200, 16, 160, 16, 4 — the drive ending in a screw, and gives the machine's size as 981 across the front and 330 along the length. Beside the mechanism stand columns of arithmetic working through these figures, with rectangular tables of numbers laid out at the right.

Machine with toothed wheels
Turning the sheet on its side, Leonardo lays out a machine of toothed wheels and records the number of teeth in the train: 200, 16, 160, 16 and 4, the drive ending in a screw. The drawing shows a drum-like body with a hopper feed and upright rods.

A separate note, written with the sheet turned upside down, gives the machine's measurements: 981 across the front and 330 along the length.
Columns of arithmetic
Columns of multiplication and addition rehearse the figures, including 44 times 44 giving 1936 and 16 times 8 giving 128, with running totals such as 176 and 308. The tabulated numbers occupy the right of the sheet.
