In the upper half, drawn in soft lead, a large square encloses a rotated square (a diamond) and an inner octagonal figure, a centralized geometric construction. Below, in fine ink, two focal points throw out a symmetrical fan of many ruled lines forming a pointed-arch outline, centred on a compact cluster of circles or wheels with a shaft descending from it. Square within a rotated square with inner octagon
The upper figure is built up in soft lead: an outer square encloses a diamond set corner-to-side within it, and inside that an octagonal figure with diagonals meeting at the centre. The construction is symmetrical, a centralized geometric scheme rather than a finished object.

In the lower half, drawn in ink, fine straight lines radiate symmetrically from two points to form a broad pointed-arch outline. At the centre sits a compact group of circles that read as wheels or discs, from which a shaft runs downward, suggesting a mechanism turning about a central hub.
