The leaf is filled with small mechanical studies drawn in brown ink and faint red chalk: a triangular A-frame enclosing a horizontal drum wound with cords, a large toothed wheel worked over in red chalk, a low bench-frame, and a round rotating stand carrying radiating arms and small hanging pieces. The e-Leo record marks the sheet 'devoid of writing,' so no note by Leonardo is transcribed here. The Ambrosiana catalogue nonetheless associates this leaf with literary passages, including the fable of the thrushes and the owl and a short praise of patience, which are not present in the transcription supplied. Further untranscribed jottings may exist elsewhere on the montage.

At the upper right a large toothed wheel is sketched and reinforced in red chalk, its rim hatched, set within a supporting frame. Nearby smaller frame studies repeat parts of the same mechanism.
Triangular frame with drum and cords
