A grouped-wheel device linking a drum to a toothed gear and worm on a stand
A pen drawing at the upper center shows a mechanism built of grouped wheels: a large drum or disc on a stand is linked by diagonal rods and cords to a toothed gear wheel at the upper right, engaged with a worm or screw, the whole carried on splayed tripod legs. The e-Leo record lists the leaf as without text; the device belongs to Leonardo's studies of grouped wheels aimed at trading load against the time of motion. Fainter sketches and marks appear lower on the otherwise blank sheet.

Drum coupled to a toothed gear and worm
A large drum or disc mounted on a frame is coupled by rods and cords to a toothed wheel at the right, which meshes with a worm or screw. The assembly stands on splayed tripod legs, a compact gear train of the kind Leonardo grouped to transmit motion.
Cords and the trade of load against time
Cords run between the drum and the geared wheel, part of a study concerned with keeping the cord stable while the grouped wheels reduce the load on the driving power at the cost of a longer time of motion.
