Radiation of light, sound, magnetism and smell through space

A column of small box-diagrams and, below, two semicircles crossed by many chords accompany notes that compare how various powers spread through space. Luminous rays pass only through transparent bodies; a base lit from a point projects an inverted pyramid to that point and can be tinted by a coloured glass set before the light, as in a pinhole image. The same 'radiating' behaviour is extended to a blow (sound) passing through walls, the echo of a voice, the mutual pull of magnet and iron, and smell, concluding that every base fills the air with infinite pyramids and every point causes infinite bases.

Luminous rays pass only through transparent bodies
The first note states that lines, or luminous rays, do not pass except through diaphanous (transparent) bodies. The letters A m t n label the accompanying box-diagram at the top of the column.
A lit base projects an inverted pyramid; coloured glass tints it
The base x o, illuminated from point p, generates a pyramid ending at point c and re-forms another base at r S, upside down, receiving what is at x o. A further note adds that the point is the cause of the base, and that a coloured glass set before each light tints the projected base with its colour.
A blow, an echo and a smell each 'radiate' like light
The lines of a blow pass through every wall; a hole splits the ray into many weaker lines than the first, a b; and the note names 'the voice of the echo'. A later line asserts that smell does the very same as the blow.
Magnet and iron attract through a wall
The lines of the magnet and of the iron pass through the wall, but the lighter body is drawn by the heavier one. When the two are of equal weight, magnet and iron draw one another equally.
Every base fills the air with infinite pyramids
The semicircle crossed by thirteen chords is labelled to show that every base fills the air with infinite pyramids. The three semicircles below carry the complementary rule that every point causes infinite bases.
