Continuing the enquiry of the previous folio, ten figures show timbers arched by suspended weights, the loads marked 4, 8, and 16 pounds. In one the ends of three timbers are fixed into a wall while their free ends bend under the weights, and in others the ends are drawn together with tie-rods. Later figures set arches within an angle or bend two arches together, and the tenth uses a weight and pulleys. The set studies how beams flex and how tie-rods and pulleys alter their behaviour under load.

Three timbers fixed in a wall and bent by weights
In the second figure the ends of three timbers are fixed into a wall, and their other ends are bent by weights marked 16, 8, and 4, showing how the fixed beams curve under differing loads.
Timbers drawn together with tie-rods
The third and fourth figures treat the timbers with tie-rods that draw their ends together, combining the elastic bending of the beams with the restraint of the rods.
Tenth figure: weight and pulleys
The tenth figure applies a weight through pulleys, marked 4, to test how the beam responds when the load is redirected mechanically.
