Mixed natural-and-violent motion
Mixed motion, that is natural-and-violent, has its degrees of gain and loss of velocity in irregular variety. Leonardo presents the double curve as an example serving what he had stated above.
The ball on the curve m n t
A ball thrown up the slope m n always loses velocity from m as far as n, and from n to t regains that same velocity which it had lost. The lettered points a b c and m n t anchor the argument to the drawn curve.
Weights on the two suspended rods
The two upper rods hang from cords with weights at their ends, recorded by the numeric pairs along each arm. They continue the running study of balance carried through these folios.
